Stevi Robinson

Stevi Robinson has received generous in-kind support throughout her life. At 19, she is returning the gesture by fulfilling a dream of becoming a personal care worker/assistant and nurse. In Year 11 and 12 Stevi became independent, living out of home at the ripe old age of 16 as a self-supported student. “I am a devoted student,” said Stevi. “I always strive to do my very best and am eager to learn and build a foundation of new skills and experiences.”
Stevi’s determination and willingness to achieve set goals was highlighted during her studies at the Mildura Senior College, where she received subject excellence and faculty awards for VCAL. She was also the WB Hawson Award recipient in Year 12. Furthermore, she was nominated in two separate categories for the Sunraysia VETiS Awards in 2016, winning one of the categories. “Because I was a self-supported student, my teachers at Mildura Senior College encouraged me to apply for a scholarship at Chances for Children to pursue my studies,” said Stevi.
In 2017, Stevi applied and received a tertiary scholarship to study the Diploma of Nursing at SuniTAFE. “Receiving funding opened numerous opportunities for my future and allowed me to pursue my dreams of becoming a nurse. The funding covers my course fees, books and rent, which assists me immensely,” said Stevi. Working casually in the kitchen at Bupa Aged Care also helps cover living expenses.
Living and studying independently has come with its challenges too, admits Stevi. Complexities in getting through course material lead Stevi to vary her course of study. Guided by Chances for Children and SuniTAFE teachers, Stevi adjusted into the Certificate III in Individual Support for Semester 2. “Working at Bupa has increased my love for assisting people to live happy and fulfilling lives” said Stevi. “After a few years of experience I will do my Bachelor of Nursing.”
As a Chances for Children recipient Stevi was nominated to be the 2017 Tour de Murray Ambassador. This proved not only to be a rewarding experience but it was also an honour to represent this great community initiative. “Chances has provided me with mentoring, financial support and budgeting assistance, which I am so thankful for. Studying at SuniTAFE would not have been possible without this support,” Stevi said.

As a result of this scholarship, with the assistance of Chances for Children and SuniTAFE, the future is looking bright for young Stevi.
